About Deep Canopy

Independent science journalism on tropical forest biodiversity.

About Deep Canopy

Deep Canopy was created to explore the extraordinary biodiversity of tropical forests โ€” the jaguars, poison dart frogs, orchids, harpy eagles, primates, fungi, and thousands of other species that make tropical forests the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth. We cover the science of how these species live, interact, and depend on intact forest โ€” and what their loss means for the functioning of the planet.

"Every species in the tropical forest is a solution to a problem that evolution has been working on for millions of years. The diversity we see is not random โ€” it is the accumulated wisdom of life itself."
